Exterior House Painting in Dundalk, Co. Louth
Weather-resistant finish with proper prep for Irish conditions. Built to last.
The paint's peeling on the gable end. The window frames have gone chalky. The front of the house looked fresh five years ago - but five Irish winters have put paid to that. You know it needs doing. You just want someone who'll do it properly so it lasts this time.
Gerry O'Connor & Son have been painting the exteriors of homes and businesses across Dundalk for over 40 years. We know what Irish weather does to paintwork - and we know how to prepare surfaces so the finish holds up through rain, frost, and damp.

Ireland's climate is harsh on paintwork. Rain, humidity, and temperature swings cause paint to peel, blister, and fade faster than anywhere drier. Painters who begin work on damp walls risk trapping moisture - and two coats over a wet surface leads to blistering within months.
We know this because we've been painting houses in Louth through 40 Irish winters. We check moisture levels before we start. We treat mould and algae. We only paint when conditions are right - because a job done in the wrong weather is a job you'll pay for twice.
What's Included in Exterior Painting
Power Washing
Remove dirt, moss, algae, and loose paint before anything else.
Surface Repair
Fill cracks, replace damaged render, treat mould with fungicidal wash.
Priming
Bare or porous surfaces get primer first. Skipping this is the #1 reason exterior paint fails.
Two Coats Minimum
Using breathable masonry paint (Dulux Weathershield or equivalent) that lets moisture escape rather than trapping it under the surface.
Woodwork
Fascia, soffits, window frames, and doors. Sanded, undercoated, and glossed.
How Much Does Exterior Painting Cost?
Exterior painting depends on house size, condition, and whether scaffolding is needed. Typical costs in 2026:
€2,000-€3,500
3-bed semi exterior
€3,000-€5,000
4-bed detached
€800-€1,500
Trim only (fascia, windows, doors)
We'll visit, assess the condition, and give you a written price. No guesswork, no surprises at the end.
When Is the Best Time to Paint Your House Exterior in Ireland?
Late spring to early autumn - May through September - gives the best conditions. June and July are typically safest, with longer dry spells and warmer temperatures.
We need at least 48 hours of dry weather after painting for proper curing. If rain is forecast, we won't start - because doing it right means doing it at the right time.
We book exterior work early, so if you're planning for summer, get in touch in spring.

How long does an exterior paint job last in Ireland?
A properly prepared and painted exterior should last 5-8 years in Irish conditions. The key is preparation - power washing, treating mould, priming bare surfaces, and using breathable masonry paint.
Do you provide scaffolding?
Yes, we arrange scaffolding where needed. The cost is included in your quote.
My exterior has mould - can you still paint it?
Absolutely. We treat mould with a fungicidal wash first, let it dry fully, then prime and paint. Painting over untreated mould is a waste of money - it'll come back through the new paint within a year.
